Saucony is a footwear and apparel company from the US, founded in Kutztown, Pennsylvania in 1898. Four men established the company near the banks of Saucony Creek, and the brand initially produced jackets, hats, socks, T-shirts, and backpacks, with a primary focus on sneakers.
In the late 1960s, A.R. Hyde, a Russian immigrant, purchased Saucony and merged it with his own shoe brand, Hydes Athletic Industries, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
After two of its sneakers were named among the top ten running shoes of 1979 by Runner’s World Magazine, the company rebranded in 1980 and changed its name to Saucony.
