DryVent vs HyVent: The Two Technologies Explained

DryVent vs HyVent: The Two Technologies Explained

Fabric technologies are not a new thing by any means. They have been around for quite some time, with Gore-Tex being one of the pioneers of these special fabrics.

We have extensively looked at some different fabric technologies that are used nowadays in jackets and other outdoor garments. We have compared them to each other in order to provide a better understanding of how they work and how they affect the performance of a jacket.

One of these fabric technologies that we have looked at before, too, is DryVent™ by The North Face.

Now, you may know this already but HyVent and DryVent are not two different fabric technologies that we will be comparing to see which one is the better option. They are, in fact, the same technology.

HyVent was renamed and redesigned as DryVent a couple of years prior, but at the core, it maintained the same functionality principles and performance characteristics.

Today we will be taking a look at how exactly the newer design, DryVent differs from its predecessor and go a bit more in-depth about the technology itself and how it performs, as well as the different types it comes in.

PrimaLoft vs Down Insulation: Which One Is Better?

PrimaLoft vs Down Insulation: Which One Is Better?

Insulation is the name of the game when it comes to how well can a winter jacket protect against the cold. While remaining dry in unstable weather conditions is a very important matter, insulation will ensure that you manage to remain warm when temperatures drop extensively.

A waterproof rain jacket is of no use against the cold, despite keeping you fully dry. It’s for that reason that an insulated jacket is a must during the winter months.

In this comparison piece we will be taking a look at two very different types of insulations: synthetic and natural.

We have, in the past, looked at both down and different synthetic insulations, but today it’s time to look at how natural Down compares to PrimaLoft®, also referred to as synthetic down.

Let’s get started with a short explanation of what insulation is, what it does and why it is a necessity in winter wear.

How To Wash Your Down Jacket – A Useful Guide

How To Wash Your Down Jacket - A Useful Guide

Those of you who live in cold countries, where snow and below-zero temperatures make up the typical winter, know very well the importance of a down jacket.

Down jackets are the warmest jackets available, provided they are well-made, of course. And they are not cheap, either, which makes the matter of properly caring for one all the more important.

In some of our previous guides on how to wash specific jackets from a particular brand, such as The North Face or Columbia, we have included some quick tips on washing down jackets, as part of these brands’ designs, but because we have written several guides for other specific types of jackets, we thought that it would only be fair (and necessary) to go through the steps of washing a down jacket.

Now, don’t be discouraged thinking that you are going to get yourself in trouble by taking matters into your own hands, because that’s not the case at all.

We will guide you through all the process of cleaning, washing, drying and storing your down jacket so that it will last you for many seasons to come.

Let’s get started!

Columbia Women’s Mighty Lite III Jacket – Review

Columbia Women's Mighty Lite III Jacket - Review

Single reviews on women’s jackets have not been that frequent on our site, and as we said in the review of Arcadia, we are certainly going to make up for that.

As such, today we will be taking an in-depth look at Columbia’s Mighty Lite III jacket for women.

Columbia, as we have said in some of our other selections and reviews, is a brand that has been featured extensively in several selections of ours, as well as single reviews and brand reviews.

We find their jackets very interesting, not solely in performance and quality, but also in design and color selection, as it provides numerous options, which is the case with Mighty Lite III as well, as you will see below.

The reason we picked this particular design is because it’s quite versatile in wear and can pass for a casual and a sports jacket. Typical sports jackets can be spotted right away as they have quite distinctive features and, while you may certainly wear them casually as part of a daily outfit, odds are it will stand out and look out of place.

Mighty Lite III, on the other hand, is a more refined design that can pass for a normal winter jacket, as you will see in the following section.
