It is time for another review article. Today we will be reviewing a jacket that comes with a lot of features, and weighs only 330 grams (11.64 oz). It is the The North Face Thermoball Full Zip jacket for men and women.
Much like the previous jacket reviews, in this one we will be breaking down each feature of this product, focusing on material, colors and usage. There will also be the user feedback, a very useful paragraph, which helps in having a better understanding of this jacket and in determining whether it might be a good choice for your necessities.
In general, we can say that this is not a down jacket, despite the quilted design on the outside, which gives it the classic down jacket look.
Instead, it comes in a synthetic insulation called ThermoBall™, created by The North Face in collaboration with PrimaLoft, which, unlike in most jackets, it is distributed and placed differently, therefore giving this jacket its special features.
We have also compared the ThermoBall insulation to real down in this article, if you want to learn more.
Now, let’s head right to the specifics.

When To Wear It
This is a versatile jacket that can be worn either as a middle layer, or on its own. It has been tested in -10 degrees Celsius, and the results held up to the manufacturer’s claims. It is a very warm jacket, but will not make you overheat, therefore it will not make you wish you could just take it off, while in below 0 temperatures. The high breathability helps with that as well.
We will discuss the material afterwards, but since it also affects the conditions and environment in which this jacket can be worn, there is a need for mentioning a few things.
As we said above, the ThermoBall insulation has been distributed differently in this jacket. Unlike other synthetic jackets, the filling is separated into small pods, just like in down jackets. This makes the jacket more compact and much warmer than down jackets of the same filling amount (about 600).
Since it also is made of synthetic, it weighs a lot less, which is something to consider when it comes to those who prefer being active in cold conditions, such as going for hiking or engaging in snow sports.
Another thing that needs to be mentioned, is that since the filling is synthetic, unlike down, it dries quickly and does not lose its ability to provide and maintain warmth when wet. Therefore, in wet conditions, this is one of this jacket’s best features.
The insulation is also well thought out, with the collar being comfortably tight around the neck when zipped, in order to protect your neck and also keep rain and snow out of the inner part. There are also elastic cuffs on the inside of the sleeves, so they will fit properly around the wrists.

With all that being said, the Thermoball jacket can be worn in any outdoor activities, during low temperatures, providing you will be moving around a bit. If you are planning on using this jacket for your day-to-day activities, which do not include actual physical activity, then either use it under a rain jacket or a hardshell jacket, or in moderate to cold temperatures.
There are only two side pockets, with zippers and zipper handles nicely sized, that can be used while wearing mittens and gloves, without any problem. Inside these pockets, there are drawstrings so you will be able to adjust the jacket to fit your body as tightly or loosely as you prefer.
One of the pockets is a stow pocket, which means that you can stuff the jacket away, when you don’t need to wear it.
As for the hood, this version is without one, which should be taken into account if you are going to spend time in rainy or snowy weather.
The ThermoBall insulation ensures loft and warmth, even when the jacket gets wet. This however, might not prove a problem, because it is quite water-resistant and since it’s synthetic, it dries up fast and easily.
The Thermoball jacket is made of Bluesign approved fabric, as mentioned in the video below. This means that it is completely free of harmful substances, which is a big pro in favor of this jacket.
Since the synthetics are generally quite lightweight, this jacket weighs around 330 grams, it is comfortable to wear and easy to store away, in its own stow pocket.
This jacket is also cruelty-free, which to many people is very important when it comes to the items they use, especially when it comes to clothes, shoes and cosmetics.

So far we have described the jacket’s features when it comes to the men’s version. Unlike the other reviews, this one comes with an extra paragraph, for the women’s version.
It is the same identical jacket, when it comes to features, materials and specifics, but it differs in design, since it looks very feminine, with a slim waist and elegant overall look.
The quilting is also different. In the men’s version it is done in small squares, whereas in the women’s version it is in a diamond shape.
The rest is all the same, including the number of pockets, logos, zippers and everything.
Not only does this jacket differ in design and features from the other jackets we have reviewed, it also differs in color selection. There are a lot of colors available. And by a lot, we mean more than 40 different colors. And this is just the men’s version.
The selection is not a single color, but it comes in a combination of not only different colors for the body and details, but also in several different prints.
The colors available for men (at the moment of writing this review) include: TNF Black/Monster Blue, Sedona Sage Grey, Cosmic Blue Brush Stroke, TNF Red/ Asphalt Grey, Tree Frog Green, TNF Black, TNF White Camo Print, Dish Blue, Urban Navy, Bomber Blue, Cosmic Blue, Valencia Orange, High Rise Grey/Asphalt Grey, Moonstruck Grey Mineral print, Snorkel Blue, Asphalt Grey, Laurel Wreath Green Cirrus Print, Spruce Green, Black Ink Green, Moonlight Blue, Spruce Green Floral Camo Print and many more.
The colors available for women (at the moment of writing this review) are more than 20 and these include: Patriot Blue, Starry Purple, High Rise Grey, Asphalt Grey, Cerise Pink, Clear Lake Blue, Kokomo Green, Surf Green, Luminous Pink, TNF Black, Melon Red, Metallic Silver, TNF Black Floral Crystal, Mid Grey, Cool Blue, Rose Red, TNF Black/Budding Green, Coastal Fjord Blue and several others.
Along with the numerous colors, the design is another thing to take into consideration. The look of this jacket is very casual, it does not look like the typical sports jacket, nor does it resemble a heavy winter jacket.
There are only two small logos, one on the front and one on the back, and that’s it. The rest is left to the colors and different prints.
It can be worn in most occasions and places, eliminating the need for purchasing several different jackets or having to change in order to look presentable.
The one thing that might prove tricky is the color you will be choosing, because with so many options available, you are sure to spend a good amount of time before making a decision.
