The G-1000 Fabrics

Launched in 1968, the G-1000 material which we have reviewed here and also compared it to Gore-Tex, is a densely woven fabric made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton, and comes in many different versions.

It is a special fabric that can be adapted to various outdoor activities by using Greenland Wax to wax it as per your particular needs when it comes to breathability and water resistance.

As part of its sustainability program, Fjällräven has created Eco versions of all of its G-1000 fabrics. These Eco versions are made of recycled polyester and organic cotton.

The Eco-Shell Fabric Technology

Eco-Shell is another sustainable material by the Swedish brand. It is a waterproof and breathable fabric, made of recycled polyester and PFC-free durable water repellent (DWR) treatment.

It ensures that moisture from sweat escapes from the inside of your jacket but water from the outside doesn’t get in, thus protecting you from rain and snow. It’s available in different versions.

Fjällräven uses animal-sourced materials when it can’t find equivalent synthetic materials with the same performance and functionality. Wool, natural down, and leather are the main animal-origin materials of the brand.

By following its Code of Conduct, the company ensures that the animals are treated humanely and aims at full traceability in all its animal-based supply chains. They have managed to achieve this for their down and are working to do the same for leather and wool. You can learn more here.

Fjällräven’s products are durable, period. They last for many years. But they need to be taken care of properly and from time to time, cleaned, re-waxed, DWR-treated, or repaired.

The brand has created many tutorials on its website that instruct you on how to take care of your outdoor product. You can also head over to a Fjällräven store for repair services.
