1. Fjällräven

A Short History Of The Brand

As usual, we will begin our comparison with a short history of the first brand: this time we will start with Fjällräven.

Fjällräven is a Swedish brand that produces outdoor clothing, backpacks, gear and accessories. It was founded in 1960 by Åke Nordin in his basement where he produced his first backpack.

Subsequently its production expanded, to produce pants, jackets, curtains, sleeping bags. Åke created a brand capable of attracting many oudtoor lovers, both in Sweden and in other parts of the world. As their mission says: “Nature is in our DNA”.

This has led them to have environmental sustainability more and more at heart: they launched Eco-Shell and their idea of sustainability starts from the design; then we move on to materials – durable, with low impact – and to production.

Everything is in respect of the environment and nature, in line with the principles on which the company was founded.

Materials and Manufacture

We already mentioned “Eco-Shell” above – an eco-friendly material used by Fjällräven. This is a material derived from recycled polyester created to respect nature. It is a waterproof and breathable material designed for clothing, such as jackets and trousers.

Down is also fully traceable, produced in an ethical way, as well as wool.

Prices

Fjällräven prices are usually quite high, in fact they can be considered a “luxury” outdoor clothing brand.

Their jackets start at $150 – $175 on average and some of them can reach $700 – $800, usually their heavy insulated parkas and down jackets.

Are Fjällräven’s jackets worth the price?

We think that the prices, which are not very low, are justified by the high performance, breathability and durability of the products. Some of their jackets can also be waxed, thus giving you the possibility to adjust their performance as you need.

In our opinion, Fjällräven’s jackets are worth their price, also for the remarkable quality, design, attention to details and refinement of the technologies used, most of them eco-friendly too.

Also, some of their jackets go on sale from time to time, so if you want to try them without spending too much, keep an eye on that.

Prices

The prices of Canada Goose jackets are very high for most people, starting at $600-$800 and going up from there, in many cases reaching more than $1000.

Are Canada Goose’s parkas and jackets worth the price?

Canada Goose is famous for being a luxury brand, so the prices of their jackets are not surprising, they are also much higher than those of Fjällräven, as we previously saw in this article.

Even with such high prices, we believe that when it comes to their jackets performance, Canada Goose has rightly earned their good reputation all over the world, also if we take a look at the production process, their products’ quality and the fact that their jackets last for years.

So, in our opinion Canada Goose jackets are worth the price, if you really need a jacket like this (you live or work in a very cold place).

3. Which Brand is Better?

If we think of a luxury brand that produces quality coats and parkas, Canada Goose certainly comes to mind.

The brand is famous all over the world for their attention to details, the quality of the fabrics and materials they use, the performance of their jackets and the fact that they last for many years.

Canada Goose is mostly popular in colder countries for the warmth and comfort you get when wearing one of their jackets, but also for their classic and minimalist design which we personally appreciate.

As for Fjällräven, it is very famous mainly in Sweden and Europe, where many outdoor and nature lovers rely on their jackets during their adventures and in everyday life. We like their simple design too.

Which one is better?

Having said that, we believe that the difference between these two brands is not so much in quality and attention to details, which are very high in both cases, but in what you are looking for.

If you want a luxury parka which is also fashionable, from a more famous brand, and you don’t mind the price, Canada Goose is for you.

If you want a vegan jacket, and you don’t like real fur and natural down insulation, Fjällräven has many options for you which are made of recycled materials.

Fjällräven also wins if you have a more limited budget: we are not saying this brand is not expensive, but just that among its product line, it has some options which are more affordable.

Lastly, it depends on the activity you are going to use the jacket for. Canada Goose, for example, is renowned for their parkas that are great for very cold, dry weather. On the other hand, Fjällräven has some great jackets for hiking in spring and autumn.

So, in our opinion, these are some of the main questions you have to think about if you are in the position where you need to choose between Canada Goose and Fjällräven.
